A brief venture into the People’s Arts Festival held in Detroit over the weekend of August 28-29 over at the Russell Industrial Center. The weather was on point, saw lots of friends, lots of unexpected networking, great entertainment, live art, but of course, I missed both fashion showcases, regardless, it was awesome. Hung out a bit with Femilia Couture, Angela McBride of Peace.Love.Spandex., Sarah Lapinski of Wound Menswear, Bre Couture, Deb Style; Street Justice, D Allie; 323 East, graffiti artists Kobe, Malt & his girl Rhonda, among other good friends!

FASHION’S NIGHT OUT

Friday, September 10 is marked as the global celebratory fashion night, namely, Fashion’s Night Out. This year, FNO is returning to NYC from 6pm to 11pm, & not to mention in the midst of New York Fashion Week.
As explained by FNO reps, “Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is an unprecedented global initiative created to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy, and put the fun back in shopping. For one night last September, in New York City and twelve other cities around the world, designers, celebrities, models, and fashion editors staged exciting, one-of-a-kind events in stores open after-hours to the public. Shoppers were able to see Sarah Jessica Parker singing standards with Oscar de la Renta, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen tending bar, as well as Michael Kors, Justin Timberlake, Kate Hudson, Rihanna and Gwen Stefani (just to name a few) at various stores throughout NYC supporting the industry. Retailers saw a surge of new shoppers and increased sales, while customers relished the street-party atmosphere.”

Introducing Hellz Bellz, Fall Delivery 1 2010, “The Rest is Her Story” collection. In the words of designer & proclaimed HBIC (head bitch in charge), Misslawn:
“This Fall 2010 marks the growth of Hellz, with a more experimental venture entitled ‘The Rest Is Her Story,’ a collection that conveys a classic story of vengeance while simultaneously exuding sensuality and ferocity. Drawing inspiration from revenge and exploitation films such as ‘Lady Snowblood’ and ‘Thriller,’ the collection makes use of a dark color palette to embody the mood & feel of both films. Black, white, and texture are prevalent throughout the collection and accentuate the unorthodox but innovative silhouettes with leather, trims and details. Pieces like the ‘Alice,’ a fitted blazer with exaggerated shoulders and back ruffle detail inspired by anti-heroines who display great strength and confidence while maintaining beauty and grace. Another interesting piece from the collection is the ‘Wonderland, ‘ a fine cotton jersey printed tunic with metal hooks and eye trims, that not only demonstrates the boldness and convention of film vixens, but the brand as a whole as well. A subtle color story, intelligent and experimental silhouettes and contrasting metal details culminate in an exhibition of daring feminine sexuality and confidence, truly proving that ‘The Rest Is Her Story.’”
