NYFW: NOMIA FALL 2011
March 5, 2011
The Nomia Fall 2011 collection by Yara Flinn was a pleasure to be present for. The show took place at The Standard in a small wooden room where media would take up 1/3 of the space, the audience jam packed on one side of the runway taking up a full third of space, & the other third of the room reserved for the models. I came in about an hour before showtime & lounged about. The models, still in their street clothes & hair clips, came out about 45 minutes before showtime to learn the runway routine. They were to walk down the bordered runway to then stand on one side of the wall until every girl has come out. They ran the full show twice so the tight crowd can actually capture the collection. Speaking of which, the collection was pretty on point; it was classy with a twist on silhouettes. My favorite Fall 2011 elements were included in this collection as well: patches of colors, sheer fabrics, & cut-outs. The plated necklaces are awesome too.
NYFW: COSTELLO TAGLIAPIETRA F/11
March 1, 2011
Costello Tagliapietra’s colorful collection is hitting Fall with Spring-like hues. Powder-colored silk & bright patterns contrast well in the collection with fur accents & sweater gowns. This season’s show held at Milk Studios is always a pleasure to be in -well except the lines & the patrolled elevators, but other than that, it’s great. Entering the runway area, the lady walking right in front of me missed a step & ate it! She got up quick though, I didn’t even need to bend down to help her up haha.. What a booming entrance to a bursting collection by designer duo Jeffrey Costello & Robert Tagliapietra. Check it for yourself:

February 26, 2011
The Project Runway Season 6 star’s Fall 2011 collection is immersed in desaturated shades & excellent patterns, as was her last couple collections. Althea always brings in great linear effects and awesome cuts on her pieces. My favorite parts of the collection were the sheer & opaque fabric patching, her choice in prints, & sweet cut-outs.

NYFW: PERRY ELLIS FALL 2011
February 21, 2011
My New York trip this season kicked off with Perry Ellis opening up my first day in town. After a late-night arrival & half an hour in the morning, I was quickly replenished after a rushed revisit to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents with moderate doses of Starbucks Fraps & bottled yogurt. With no ails, the hunky Perry Ellis runway show tailored to the traditional gentlemen with classic layering & modern styling. My favorite details are with the hunter’s shoulder patched coats, shawl collars, chunky socks, & stone-washed color schemes. After all forty looks made its debut, the models took a group stroll rockin’ matching long sleeves & white long johns – nice & fitted. Check the full Perry Ellis Fall 2011 collection below, photos taken by Winnie Jeng of FORMzine! My photos are the seating point-of-view like above!

NYFW S/S 2011: BOUDOIR D’HUITRES
December 9, 2010
I have to admit, a lot of my favorite shows at New York Fashion Week this past fall season were off site from the tents. My Boudior D’huitres experience was no different. The show kicked off with a Pebbles & Bam Bam sorta feel. There were lots of animal prints, leather, & silk; nature’s best. I had a variety of favorites in this collection, including almost all the leather pieces, the dresses, pockets, etc. I also thoroughly enjoyed the folding flap vest & jacket. The organic hemp giftbag with natural beauty products was also a plus.
At the show, the guests received excerpts from Mimi’s diary which explained the collection’s inspiration:
From Mimi’s Diary – South Africa 2010
Inspiration Spring/Summer 2011
To the African Bushman
The preying mantis is believed to be a divine messenger
-She is seen as an ambassador from the animal “Queendom”
-The Orchid Mantis is beautiful like the flowers…delicate round shapes & curved angles
-Round Organic shapes us, new development…structure, summetry.
Modern Woman not traditional. Insect safari. Animal safari. Human safari.
Colors
-The palest sunlight broke down this morning…Shining…Beaming..Smiling
-A silent sanctuary of olive & brown hued weltered grass
-Steel & modern technology against a resistant back drop of earth, rack & history
-The moon is so bright here…a ghostly white marbled against the deepest navy
-The landscape has become dry…now I am thirsty.
Mimi’s Diary – June 28, 2010 – South Africa
In South Africa, I watched the sun set.
These were intricate shades of blues, greens, yellows & white.
Piercing ambers penetrated navy, & I wanted to embrace that palette.
I imagined a modern day Safari with Victorian influence.
My journey was guided by a preying mantis.
I saw the sun glisten against the rippling lake, creating moving diamonds on its surface.
1960′s Veruschka with a touch of Kathleen Turner as Joan Wilder in “Jewel of the Nile.”
I was inspired by all of these things.

DAILY GRIND: NYFW: MIDEAST CHIC
October 30, 2010
RI$I$M caught up with this miss while shifting through the exiting crowd after the Trias show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. After receiving a nice compliment from this lovely lady, I asked her if I could take a quick snapshot of her outfit. Middle East style was flooding New York during fashion week this year; excuse me while I tap on a touchy subject, but even with all the silly commotion about a Mosque being built by ground zero, there sure were a lot of turbans & harem pants going around the city. Whatever the confusion -or contradictory- is, we love this.
NYFW: GARY GRAHAM SPRING/2011
October 21, 2010

Peepin’ the Gary Graham Spring 2011 Collection presented at Milk Studios during New York Fashion Week this fall season. I instantly fell in love with the choice of highly layered patterns & fabrics, mostly neutral hues, the touch of scarlet red, & draping silhouettes. I’ve been noticing black is the new pastel for a lot of the Spring 2011 collections. Graham still keeps it classically spring with the floral prints, white linen, & under saturated colors, but I’m definitely digging his mixed-media approach.

NYFW: KAROLINA ZMARLAK SS/11
September 27, 2010
Karolina Zmarlak‘s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, presented at MB New York Fashion Week.
This season, Karolina Zmarlak was inspired by a modernist re-visioning of the traditions in Japan. Deconstruction of traditional kimono lines are redeveloped with slits, sliced necklines & folding; a futuristic transparency of old textures. As Karolina approaches her fourth season, her focus remains on sophistication, bold silhouettes, clean tailoring, convertibility & personalization. Her strong use of traditional textiles melded with high-tech performance fabrics continues to be represented through her designs, as she introduces the use of fresh bold colors, prints & techniques.
