Today, two exciting musical projects were released by hip hop’s very own living pioneers, Elzhi (formerly of Slum Village) & DJ Rhettmatic (world famous Beat Junkies). See you there on the dancefloor!

It’s a shame if you missed it last fall, but our fashion event, DESIGN.DEFINE.DETROIT (DDD). was on bang! Our entire team worked our butts off to provide a platform to not only showcase local fashion designers, but to unite the entire fashion community & discuss how we could turn what we do into a sustainable industry here in the city. Here is a video compiled by Cierra Mooney on DDD as she interviews the event insiders along with clips of the runway show! Enjoy!

I’m giving ya’ll a glimpse behind the scenes with Detroit’s finest songstress, Monica Blaire (MB), for a B.L.A.C. Magazine photo shoot. I came in as the shoot’s wardrobe stylist after MB approached me about some style concepts she wanted to execute. I was all over it. If you are familiar with this artist, then you know she is all soul, energy, & magic! I’ve witnessed the wonder that is Monica Blaire as she has lit up stages across the city, & it’s an honor to style her up.

MB’s funky spirit is right up my alley; she has that quirkiness & heavy artistry that I am all about. Plus we are both members of the local hip hop community here in Detroit, so it was easy for us to connect. Collaborating with Detroit’s industry finest like jeweler Nneka Jackson, make-up artist Leila D’Amato, & hairstylist Mo, along with Monica Blaire was just magic in the making. Not to mention photographer Sean Lee & the rest of the crew in the house made it bang out for some reason? Maybe it was the fancy hor d’oeuvres on set? Or the wine? Or the triple fermented beer? ha.

For MB’s looks, I brought in pieces from Detroit designers, Fotoula Lambros Design & Angela McBride’s Peace Love Spandex, along with pieces from my own personal collection of garments. Nneka Jackson, B-Flyy Creations jeweler, customized a neck piece on the spot! That’s how we work! Peep a sneak peek at the BLAC mag shoot below. Keep an eye out for the printed issue on the streets soon!

My homegirl, Bgirl Ma-Ma of Hardcore Detroit breaking crew (in black hijab), came through for her exhibition battle against Bgirl Maresco from Virginia (in teal beanie). The event took place at the University of Michigan for Master the Art 8 (MTA8) on Saturday, March 12th, where both ladies ripped it on the floor as they displayed their skills and musicality in a featured exhibition battle. Maresco kicks it off properly: rockin’ the beat up & down, going in for the kill, giving us a full-length set. Ma-Ma was on complete battle mode, unleashing each round with full ammunition, she responded to Maresco with corresponding floor tricks & beat hitting.. & then some. Big ups to both bgirls, held it down to the fullest, without doubt! See for yourself, check the full five-round battle here.
