Gift Ideas: Custom Paintings by Yours Truly
November 14, 2011
The holidays are fast approaching and perhaps you are looking to find some personal gifts for your loved ones.. well, might I suggest a customized painting by yours truly?
Many currently recognize me for other talents mostly involving fashion and hip hop, but my first love is with art. Pencil and paper was my thing as a kid, toys were secondary. I feel that I still apply my eye for aesthetics in other areas of my life, but my actual art skill is definitely cryptic to most.
Below are some examples of 20×30 canvas work with acrylic paint. The KRS1 piece was a custom job for a client, sold for $300. The following piece is titled, “Head in the Clouds, Feet on the Ground, Back to the Wall” – painting still available for $300.
For inquiries, contact me at risism.com@gmail.com ..prices vary with size and work.
P.S. Sintex is also another great artist to contact for custom paintings ;)
FASHIONED IN HELL
November 24, 2010
The eventful Halloween weekend in Detroit included a fashion costume showcase held by Metrotimes magazine at midtown’s Majestic Theatre. The first ever, Fashioned in Hell, featured Halloween themed garments down the runway by local designers & boutiques like Get-Up Vintage, Camilo Pardo, Femilia Couture, Peace.Love.Spandex., & much more (listed below). The event also provided an appropriate line-up of entertainment that included a belly dancer, burlesque dancer, fire hoola, & sword swallower. You’ll also see FIN’s sponsor-themed Fuze dress worn by Detroit’s Gossip Girl, Lauren Stroud. Some of my favorites on the runway had to be Kelly Kapowski & Jessie Spano from Saved By The Bell.
A number of the crowd was what you would expect to be in fashionable costumes. Designer, Angela McBride, was a “Motherboard” where her outfit included the dopest bubble-wrap cardigan, hand-made by her comrade, designer, Sarah Lapinski. I kept a count of how many Michael Jacksons, Nicki Minajs, & Lady GaGas I would see that night.. Total tally was MJ = 2, NM = 0, LG = 7.. & yes, the Lady GaGa meat dress was in the house (photo not captured).

HAPPY COCO CHANEL DAY
August 19, 2010
On this day in 1883, one of the most recognizable & influential names in fashion history, the elegant, iconic, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was born. With Chanel’s brand holding its influence as strong as ever today, we commemorate her with some of RI$I$M’s favorite Coco quotes:
“Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”
“A style does not go out of style as long as it adapts itself to its period. When there is an incompatibility between the style and a certain state of mind, it is never the style that triumphs.”
“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”
“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
“Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.”
“A woman is closest to being naked when she is well dressed.”
“Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.”
“There are people who have money and people who are rich.”
“Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.”
“The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”
“Great loves too must be endured.”
“As long as you know men are like children, you know everything!”
“Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.”
“Since everything is in our heads, we had better not lose them.”
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
-Coco Chanel
