Beyonce’s newest jawn, “Who Run the World (Girls)” has been sweeping through pop culture, & though I consider Bey an occasional guilty pleasure, the thing that even attracted me to this song was the Major Lazer “Pon De Floor” sample. Her official video was less than stellar, but when a good friend of mine introduced me to this video of The Bad Girls Club dancing to Sean Bankhead’s choreo, I became lowkey obsessed. These girls trumped the original choreography, sorry Bey.

Hip Hop’s ultimate pioneer, the late, great, Dilla Dawg’s life is reflected through the video documentary, “Still Shining” directed by B. Kyle Atkins. The doc is to be released online on February 7, 2011 at The J Dilla Project & features rare footage of the legend himself, friends, fam, & musical colleagues of the same league. Turn it up louder! R.I.P.

From March 16th to the 20th, one of the most notable music festivals is hitting the streets of Austin, TX. The official South by Southwest music schedule has been announced! Although, it is always subject to change & additions. Keep in mind, not all of your favorite acts will be listed through the official SXSW site, so I recommend diligent sxsw line-up searches throughout the the next couple months – google blogs & external companies arranging for sxsw.

If you click through the official SXSW site & see about how to “attend” then realize that the minimum $450 rate is a bit out of your budget, don’t fret! In my experience, that official badge is hardly even necessary. What IS necessary is RSVPing. The big ones you would want to reserve a pass for are the likes of The Fader Fort & more (will list as info comes along) – venues that hold a variety of acts throughout the week, & this one pass can get you into most of them at NO cost. RSVPing really shouldn’t cost you a thing.. & on the other hand, some shows have a low cover like around 10 to 20 bones, & that’s only if you decide to go.

Don’t forget about the parties & lounges. What’s really going to happen is that you will find yourself partying all day anyway, with all the open bars everywhere. Parties & lounges are awesome ways to fill your evenings in with more fun & networking, I mean, what else were you going to do anyway? Again, check diligently about other parties not listed through the SXSW site.. Google is your best friend.

There are HUNDREDS of acts setting up show for this fantastic festival. Some names include: Erykah Badu, J-Live, Rah Digga, MSTRKRFT, Pep Love, Chromeo, Das Racist, Murs, Zion I & The Grouch, Onra, Sage Francis, & so much more not even listed yet. Keep up with updates here with RI$I$M.

On 1.11.11, Bay area based vocalist Jayne Rio launched her website at www.JAYNERIO.com. Along with the launch of her site is a free download of her track “Game Over” featuring female MC, Hopie Spitshard – all Bay Area representin’!

Jayne is a long time friend of mine -since elementary school- & I’m proud to support her to this day. For some audible treats, be sure to visit www.JAYNERIO.com.

“Spunky, loving, vivacious — are just a few words to describe up and coming singer and performer, Jayne Rio. Jayne’s illuminating vocals backed with her eclectic style have rightfully earned her a golden ticket on American Idol Season 5, her own YouTube channel with over 2 million views and 10,000 subscribers, countless performances around the world, and a continually growing dedicated fan base. Her inexplicably raw talents in combination with her sparkling spirit and devoted work ethic make her an inspiration, a timeless personality, and a fresh breath of originality. Jayne Rio is more than just a singer and performer – she is the embodiment of what it means to be a true artist.”

Magestik Legend is nothing short of his name. The release of “The Great Escape” is now available for your audible pleasure, AND the first 250 copies each have a personalized autograph, appropriately named the “Signature Series.” The entire project was produced by Astronote & 14KT. You can copp your cd at magestiklegend.bandcamp.com for only 10 bones. Purchases also include a bonus copy of “Free Magestik Legend,” so nice!

Visit magestiklegend.bandcamp.com for all the deets!
