risismTV: Sean Bankhead to Beyonce’s Girls
May 23, 2011
Beyonce’s newest jawn, “Who Run the World (Girls)” has been sweeping through pop culture, & though I consider Bey an occasional guilty pleasure, the thing that even attracted me to this song was the Major Lazer “Pon De Floor” sample. Her official video was less than stellar, but when a good friend of mine introduced me to this video of The Bad Girls Club dancing to Sean Bankhead’s choreo, I became lowkey obsessed. These girls trumped the original choreography, sorry Bey.
Download Day: Elmatic & Wonderlove
May 10, 2011
Today, two exciting musical projects were released by hip hop’s very own living pioneers, Elzhi (formerly of Slum Village) & DJ Rhettmatic (world famous Beat Junkies). Elzhi’s Elmatic is a tribute record to the classic Nas debut, Illmatic, & features the talent of Detroit’s own Will Sessions on live instruments, DJ Dez on wax, Amp Fiddler on keys, & rapper Royce Da 5’9″! Rhett, for his own birthday, released Wonderlove as a dedication mix to fellow Taurus, the wonder himself, Stevie Wonder. Get your free downloads right unda.
- “XXL and Elzhi.com are proud to present Elzhi’s new mixtape, Elmatic, for free download. [Cop it here ***Fixed]
The 10-track offering—which finds the Detroit lyricist paying homage to Nas’s classic debute LP, Illmatic—was produced entirely by Will Sessions. Fellow D-Town MC Royce da 5’9” and Illmatic beatmaker Pete Rock also make appearances.
Fans can pre-order limited edition physical copies of the disc and other merchandise at elzhi.com. now. —XXL Staff”

Vintage Sportswear Shop in the Works
May 4, 2011
I am working on launching an online resale shop under the name, honeyBOOM, a retail line that focuses on vintage sportswear by the way of my own designs thrown in the mix. The vintage pieces I collect are old school bboy/bgirl inspired. I have lots of windbreakers, leotards, & track jackets, with a dose of Kangol hats & Cazal frames. I also include other unique, yet relatable, apparel like vintage rompers & crop tees. My own designs will come in a form of handmade accessories, t-shirts, & other goods & thangs.
I actually started this project under a different name, I was calling it “Gold Crate Club,” symbolic for digging & collecting classic pieces – just as how DJ’s would “dig in the crates” for special records. I decided on changing the name when I was thinking of new approaches for the project, basically to refresh everything. “Honey Boom” is a phrase that’s been familiar to me since adolescence. You may recognize it while you were jamming to RBL Posse’s “Don’t Give Me No Bammer Weed,” lol. Female rappers, Sugar ‘N’ Spice, also had a track called “Honey Boom.” I am born & raised in the San Francisco Bay Area where both RBL Posse & Sugar ‘N’ Spice hail, so songs like that stuck with me hard. “Honey Boom” could also be translated as an expression similar to: “Girl, please!” or “No she di’int!” or even giving a “BAM!” effect. It’s all in good fun.
I have several exciting things in store for honeyBOOM in the coming weeks! You can get a small preview at honeyboom.bigcartel.com. Official launch to follow soon!
